Meet the Doctor
Dr. Dorienne Taylor-Bishop
Many times, the first words out of a patient’s mouth are, “I’m so afraid of the dentist!” I pride myself on making even the most anxious patients comfortable in my chair. By putting a person at ease, through taking time to listen to and understand their worries and desires, I can provide them with the best care. In turn, this helps the person focus on their health and well-being.
As a dentist, I love working one-to-one with patients. The work I do impacts all aspects of my patients’ daily lives: whether I am getting someone out of immediate pain, educating a person about their oral and systemic health, or giving a person the ability to smile with confidence, I come into the office excited about the day ahead!
I truly enjoy being on the same team as my patients. Rather than dictating treatment, we work together to find solutions. Once I have educated a patient about their conditions, explaining what I’ve found in their exam and through diagnostic imaging, we discuss treatment options and decide, together, how to proceed. In doing so, we fix the issues that are present and can prevent future problems. Seeing each person’s improvement in oral and overall health, from visit to visit, is extremely rewarding.
Dr. Taylor-Bishop graduated in 1992, obtaining her DDS degree from the faculty of dentistry at Howard University College of Dentistry. She was selected to complete an Advanced Education Residency in General Dentistry at Howard University. This residency provided her with advanced training in all the specialties of dentistry, including hospital rotations in oral surgery, anesthesiology, and dental treatment of medically compromised patients. Dr. Taylor-Bishop was also trained in pediatric dentistry while working in various clinics throughout Maryland and the District of Columbia. In 1998, she opened a private practice in Silver Spring, MD, with her partner & spouse, Dr. David Bishop. Within the same year, she was accepted into the HUCD Implant Maxi-Course & was awarded a Certificate in Oral Implantology.
Dr. Taylor-Bishop is a member of the Maryland State Dental Society, the American Dental Association. She is an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of Restorative services at Howard University College of Dentistry and a Faculty Facilitator for Interdisciplinary Health Care Ethics.
I enjoy participating with Missions of Mercy a couple of times a year. My staff and I love volunteering in fundraisers, marathons, donating blood, and feeding the homeless during Holidays. I also take part in Zion Care International Mission Trip to Jamaica with over 20 students that are accompanying me and assist patients by providing free dentistry to those that cannot afford to see a Dentist. Through the many more organizations I am affiliated with, my staff and I provide free dental care to underserved populations in Maryland & the District of Columbia. It is important to give back to and support our community.
Beyond The Practice
Dr. Bishop & I have 2 adult children. As a family, we enjoy taking family trips, interacting through outdoor activities such as; sports, sightseeing, and reliving our stress by shopping at the outlets. I love cooking and dancing. When I’m not in the office, you’ll often find me cooking up something in my kitchen or exploring the MD/DC/VA food scenes with Dr. Bishop.
